My Kid Was Sick With a Mystery Illness for 3 Months & I Was Stunned When I Found Out Why

A mom in England knew something wasn't right with her young daughter, but doctors repeatedly told her the little girl was fine. Kirsty Handley claims Peyton, 3, wasn't her usual rambunctious self and started having strange symptoms, including persistent bad breath and discomfort in her nose.

Kirsty and her husband, Craig, took Peyton to see her primary care physician several times, but the parents say doctors repeatedly rebuffed their concerns. After months of no answers, the parents took Peyton to the emergency room, where physicians made a shocking discovery.

In a Facebook post, Kirsty claims that Peyton's pediatrician's office treated the child for a sore throat and an infection but never found the root cause of the problem. A quick trip to the ER led to the culprit – a raisin Peyton had put in her nose for safekeeping months before. Her parents are thankful to the ER docs but frustrated that Peyton's regular doctors couldn't help her.

It appears the raisin was in her nose for a long time.

According to Kirsty, Peyton had been "really run down" and not feeling like herself for months. Her concerned mom took her to the doctor to try to figure out what was wrong.

"The first time we asked them to check her nose incase anything got stuck up there (she is a toddler after all). They 'checked' her nose & throat and said her nose was clear but her throat was a little red so prescribed her a throat spray saying that was the cause of her being unwell and the smell, saying they could smell the infection," she wrote on Facebook.

No matter what they did, Peyton continued to feel ill.

According to Kirsty, Peyton didn't get better, so her parents took her back to the doctor for another exam and more tests. Still, nothing came back that concerned medical professionals, and Kirsty began to feel helpless.

The parents noticed Peyton became uncomfortable when she scratched her nose, and the parents felt confident something was stuck in her airway, the BBC reported.

Her parents became fed up and went to the hospital.

The little girl wasn't getting better, and her strange symptoms persisted. While waiting on more information from Peyton's doctor, they decided to take her to the emergency room.

Kirsty wrote, "They smelled her breath and the first thing they said is that there is a blockage. Within 10 minutes she had two amazing ENT specialists come down and check her out. Immediately as soon as they looked up her nose they could see something blocking it."

The doctors pulled a raisin from one of the little girl's nostrils.

The parents aren't sure how the raisin got into Peyton's nose, but Craig told the BBC he had a pretty good idea. "You turn your back for two seconds and they pretty much do what they want at that point," he said.

Thankfully, Peyton is now feeling better, and her symptoms have subsided.

Her father joked, "Definitely no more raisins."

Kirsty said she will always go with her gut.

She no longer feels confident about seeing Peyton's regular doctors.

"I will now always trust my gut and not the doctors who are still using Covid as an excuse to half arse their way through patients! especially when it comes to my 3 year old!" the frustrated mom wrote on Facebook. "I would say go get a second opinion but not from the same doctors surgery!! As every single visit was with a different GP yet they were all as useless as the last."
